Office Fire Strikes STALKER 2 Developer GSC Game World
A blaze has ravaged a section of the GSC Game World’s Prague office, the team behind the Stalker series.
Czech news source Vortex details, with a translation by HazzadorGamin, that the fire was sparked by an electrical fault, resulting in the destruction of one floor.
Thankfully, there have been no reported injuries, though the incident caused an estimated 1.5 million CZK (approximately $65,866) in damage.
The fire reportedly consumed a floor housing backup servers, per the report.
A GSC Game World developer updated the community on Discord, stating the affected floor “needs complete renovation” and that an investigation into the fire’s specifics is underway.
The developer expressed determination, asserting the incident will not halt their progress on Stalker 2, and mentioned the team has surmounted greater challenges in the past.
Earlier in the year, GSC Game World faced “constant cyberattacks,” adding to their challenges.
Amidst the conflict in Ukraine, the studio had previously moved some of its operations from Kyiv to Prague in 2022, ensuring the continuity of Stalker 2’s development.
Originally slated for an April 2022 release, Stalker 2 has been delayed multiple times, now aiming for a Q1 2024 release.
