Project B introduces mini-boss encounters to the game, complete with unique mechanics and challenges. You will face off against these formidable foes at unspecified times and at random locations, requiring you to adapt your strategies and utilize your skills to emerge victorious.

Project B

  • The mod uses binary patch methods and therefor requires version 1.6 of the game.
  • Developed for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 version 1.6 based on the vanilla files.
  • Always create a save game before installing this mod in case things go wrong.
  • This mod can be installed at any time; no new savegame is required. It might take some time before the mod activates however.
  • This mod cannot be fully uninstalled! If bosses are active in your current game you can only prevent more from showing up by removing the optional modules.
  • This mod is incompatible with NPC Combat Overhaul (version 2.12).
  • This is going to be a mixed emotional experience. Enjoy!

Description
Project B introduces mini-boss encounters to the game, complete with unique mechanics and challenges. You will face off against these formidable foes at unspecified times and at random locations, requiring you to adapt your strategies and utilize your skills to emerge victorious.

These bosses have a multitude of unique mechanics that set them apart from regular human enemies. Players will need to learn and adapt to these mechanics in order to successfully defeat them. These mechanics are based on the end-game bosses from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, but have been adjusted and extended to fit the random encounter nature of this mod.

It might take a while for this mod to activate. The chances of encountering one of these bosses are low in general. You’ll understand why once you face one of them.

Bosses are limited to human non-player characters (NPCs) only. Mutant bosses are not included in this mod.

Loot note: to get proper boss loot from all bosses, the “Stashes” module from Project Y is required. Without it, bosses will just have normal loot.

Weapon upgrades: compatible with Enemy Weapon Attachments; with it, bosses can use upgraded weapons with attachments as well.

ProjectBMod.pak
This is the core file that introduces the new (mini-)boss encounters and their unique mechanics. It’s required for anything from this mod to work. You can also spawn bosses via console; see the commands listed further below.

Note: Removing this file while a boss is active in your savegame will cause the game to crash when loading said savegame. You can remove the other optional modules safely at any time to prevent them from showing up however.

ProjectBModBossLairs.pak
This will include the bosses in the lairs of the world, making those areas even more challenging and rewarding. Be prepared for a tough fight if you stumble upon one of these lairs!

ProjectBModMemoryManagement.pak
This module optimizes memory usage related to the new bosses, ensuring smooth performance even during intense encounters. It helps manage resources effectively, preventing potential lag or crashes during gameplay. In other words: it makes the dead bodies disappear faster.

ProjectBModOG.pak
This will give the original bosses a summon ability. It enhances their combat capabilities, making them more formidable opponents. Expect no (mini-)boss fight to be the same as in Vanilla! (Affects OG boss configs such as Faust, Korshunov, Scar, and Strelok.)

ProjectBModReinforcements.pak
At random times, reinforcements featuring one of the new bosses will appear. Be prepared for an intense firefight! This module adds an exciting dynamic to the gameplay, keeping players on their toes. This can happen at any time (including main missions and the tutorial area (in which case I do not expect you to survive, try again), so always be prepared.

Compatibility
This mod is incompatible with NPC Combat Overhaul (version 2.12). I have tried but I did not succeed in making them compatible. Specifically the reinforcement module is incompatible with that mod; it won’t do anything. And neither will quest NPCs summon bosses from the OG module.

This mod is compatible with my other mods. As a matter of fact, to get proper boss loot from all bosses the “Stashes” module from Project Y is required. Without this the bosses will just have normal loot.

It’s compatible with Enemy Weapon Attachments and with it the bosses will have upgraded weapons and attachments as well.

Technical
Using ‘refurl’ or ‘bpatch’ (parts of) the following configuration files will be impacted to succeed in integration.

  • Core: NPCSpawnerPrototypes.cfg
  • Boss Lairs: GenericLairPrototypes.cfg
  • Memory Management: CoreVariables.cfg
  • OG: Faust.cfg, Korshunov.cfg, QuestObjPrototypes.cfg, Scar.cfg, Strelok.cfg
  • Reinforcements: GeneralNPCObjPrototypes.cfg

Balance & Notes
This mod will introduce some challenging encounters, so be prepared for tough fights. Make sure to stock up on supplies and gear before venturing into areas where bosses may appear. If you find the mod too difficult, consider adjusting the game’s difficulty settings or using mods that enhance player capabilities. Maybe even disable one of the optional modules (temporarily).

If it’s really too hard for you, try Super Soldier mod to boost your character’s abilities.

If you still think it’s easy, try The Difficulty Mod to increase the overall game difficulty.

Use this mod at your own risk. In the end this mod is a love it or hate it kind of mod. If you like challenging fights and new mechanics, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you prefer a more relaxed/realistic gameplay experience, this mod might not be for you.
